When we think of SEO, the first thing that comes to mind is Google. But now, SEO applies to the next big search engine: Instagram.

So, not only are SEO keywords helping you when people search on Instagram, but when you pair that with hashtags, you have an even better chance of getting your content in front of the right people!

Use these tips to incorporate both into your social media strategy:

✔️ Do your keyword research to see which ones will work best for your brand.

✔️ Optimize your handle, profile name, and bio with keywords where it makes sense.

✔️ Add relevant keywords into your captions to boost your visibility in searches and on the explore page.

✔️ Avoid “keyword stuffing,” which is when you add WAY too many keywords that sound unnatural.

#️⃣ Hashtags

✔️ Create a master hashtag reference bank of all the hashtags that fit your brand’s niche.

✔️ Remember that hashtags always start with the # symbol, but they won’t work with any other symbols, punctuation, or spaces.

✔️ Use relatively short hashtags—the longer ones are harder to read and remember.

✔️ If they’re relevant, use all 30 hashtags that Instagram allows.

The bottom line is that SEO and hashtags should be used together. SEO lets Instagram know what your posts are about, and hashtags categorize your posts—both broaden your reach!
