4 Reasons To NOT Start a New Social Media Account

If you’re thinking about starting over with a new social media account, here’s a friendly word of advice — please don’t. 😅

I see this happen way too often: small business owners get fed up with the lack of growth, so they think starting over with a whole new Instagram account is a good idea.

Don’t even get me started on how irritating this is as a social media manager...but since we’re here already, let me get into it! 😂

So, here’s the scenario: your stats are stagnant, and you're thinking about starting a new Instagram account to increase engagement and find more followers.

Here's why you SHOULDN'T do this:

✖️ Starting a new IG account will not change the size of your community. If you're a local business and don’t offer services outside of your community, your stats may be stagnant.

✖️ Asking your current followers to follow your new page is asking a LOT of them, TBH. Many won’t do it. You're pretty much setting yourself up for failure with this one!

✖️ All of your old posts will be gone forever! IG is a mini portfolio, and when you start a new account, you lose all of your business’s social proof.

✖️ You’re going to look like you’re just starting out. New people coming to your page and seeing only 6 posts and 100 followers will assume you’re a new business, and they’ll either expect a cheaper price point OR move on. You don’t want either of those things!

When seeing not-so-great numbers on your IG, ask yourself these questions:

✔️ Are you posting consistently?

✔️ Are you using GOOD hashtags?

✔️ Are there keywords in your captions?

✔️ Are you sharing high-quality visuals?

✔️ Are you engaging with your community?

Think about your current strategy and how else you can reach your goals on social.
